Community safety education is a key ingredient in achieving a safer community. People wishing to become active in this aspect of community life can access a range of information and groups.

Early Fire Safe
An educational program delivered by fire service personnel and supported by the Country Fire Authority (CFA) and the Metropolitan Fire Brigade (MFB), Early Fire Safe aims to raise awareness of the causes of burns and scalds to children under the age of five – and to advise how to prevent these injuries.

The Road Safety Awareness and Information Unit
This unit conducts educational programs and public awareness campaigns for drivers and senior secondary students aimed at raising their awareness of factors contributing to road crashes. VicPol

Life Saving Victoria Education Programs
Life Saving Victoria is responsible for a range of community development, education and training programs which aim to reduce the risk of aquatic and other emergency related incidents within the community. It offers relevant, up to date programs that can be taught in a large variety of venues to both lifesaving members and the members of the public of all ages. LSV

Dogs 'n' kids (PDF 740 KB)
This information resource kit for health professionals promotes responsible dog ownership and dog bite prevention and is part of an overall strategy to reduce the incidence and severity of dog bites to children. Safety Centre

Fired Up English
People of culturally and linguistically diverse communities are often unable to access fire safety information due to a lack of information in their community language. Fired Up English is a fire safety education program that has been designed for adults from a non-English speaking background who are studying English as a second language (ESL classes). CFA

FLAMES - Multicultural Fire Safety
Flames for English Language Schools and Centres is a fire safety education program for secondary aged students newly arrived in Australia. Flames for Adult Migrants teaches English skills through the study of fire safety and fire safe behaviours. Programs can be delivered in any centre providing English Language programs. MFB

Child firelighting
The Juvenile Fire Awareness and Intervention Program (JFAIP) aims to reduce the number of deaths, injuries and millions of dollars of property damage caused by juvenile firelighting in Victoria. It is coordinated and delivered by practitioners who are specially trained operational firefighters from the MFB (Juvenile Fire Awareness and Intervention Program) and CFA (Child firelighting) . Ongoing consultants to the program include a Clinical Psychologist.

Seniors Fire Safety Program
Seniors Fire Safety Program is a fire safety education strategy for senior citizens. The program's aim is to educate the retired members of our community about fire safety and to minimise risk to people in this group from fire. MFB

Safety - It's Child's Play
The Safety - It's Child's Play facilitator's manual is a guide to running a child safety course for parents and carers of young children. The manual was developed by the City of Ballarat, in partnership with the CFA (Country Fire Authority), under the State Government child injury prevention initiative 'SafeStart'. DHS

Keep Me Safe cards
The Keep Me Safe Cards are a pictorial based child safety resource for service providers working with parents with an intellectually disability. They were developed by the City of Ballarat, in partnership with a range of stakeholders, under the State Government child injury prevention initiative 'SafeStart'. The cards provide helpful prevention advice on a range of common causes of unintentional child injury in the home including, poisoning, burns, drowning, falls and dog bites. Accompanying the card set is an instructional card for service providers suggesting how the cards should be used. DHS

KIDSAFE Playspace Resource Kit
KIDSAFE Playspace Resource Kit contains information sheets on all aspects of playground safety, of interest to Child Care Centres, Early Childhood educators, schools, local councils and home based carers.
